The terms in plain language
| Term | Meaning | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| GEO | Generative Engine Optimization: improving useful public content so generative search systems can understand it and may cite it in an answer. | Clear facts, original evidence, crawlable pages, descriptive headings, and trustworthy sources. |
| AEO | Answer Engine Optimization: structuring content so a search engine, voice assistant, or AI engine can extract and display or speak a direct, accurate answer. | Question-led headings, concise answers, definitions, lists, tables, and matching structured data where a supported type exists. |
| AIO / LLMO | AI Optimization or Large Language Model Optimization: broad labels for helping language-model products recognize, retrieve, and accurately describe a brand. | Consistent product facts, accessible text, strong entity signals, reputable third-party coverage, and current documentation. |
| Brand Radar | Ahrefs Brand Radar is an external visibility-measurement product, not an optimization standard and not a built-in CallUltra feature. | Tracks modeled prompts, mentions, citations, impressions, and AI share of voice so teams can compare trends. |
| AI Overviews | Google's generative summaries that can appear in Search and link to supporting web pages. | Uses the same core crawl, index, quality, and snippet eligibility foundations as Google Search; there is no special AI Overview schema. |
What the CallUltra docs publish
Every public guide is delivered as readable HTML in the first response, with a unique title, description, canonical URL, crawlable internal links, and matching article metadata. The build also publishes a sitemap, a Markdown alternative for each guide, and optional llms.txt indexes for tools that choose to use them.
Write pages that answer real questions
- 1Choose one user task
Start with a question a buyer, operator, or developer genuinely needs answered.
- 2Answer it early
Give the direct answer near the heading, then add constraints, evidence, and steps.
- 3Use verifiable product facts
Name the feature, supported workflow, limitation, and source. Remove claims the product cannot prove.
- 4Connect related evidence
Link to the relevant guide, API operation, security explanation, screenshot, or independent source.
- 5Review and refresh
Update changed capabilities and dates, then remove obsolete or contradictory statements.
Measure AI visibility responsibly
Track a stable set of prompts that reflect real customer questions, then record whether CallUltra is mentioned, cited, described accurately, and linked. Compare trends by engine and geography instead of treating one generated answer as a ranking.
| Signal | What to record |
|---|---|
| Mentions | Whether CallUltra appears in the generated answer. |
| Citations | Which CallUltra or third-party URL supports the answer. |
| Accuracy | Whether the product description and limitations are correct. |
| Share of voice | How often CallUltra appears compared with a defined competitor set. |
| Referral traffic | Visits and conversions attributed to AI-search links where analytics data is available. |
Ahrefs Brand Radar can provide one external view of mentions and citations. Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, server logs, and analytics provide separate evidence about crawling, indexing, referrals, and conversions.
Keep public discovery separate from private data
- Only public marketing pages and documentation should be crawlable. Call records, transcripts, recordings, leads, billing data, and account settings must remain behind authentication and authorization.
- Never place API keys, MCP grants, webhook secrets, private prompts, customer phone numbers, or credentials in public HTML, Markdown, screenshots, structured data, sitemaps, or
llms.txt. - Use authentication for confidential content. A
robots.txtrule is crawler guidance, not an access-control mechanism. - Keep Markdown alternatives and AI index files out of traditional search results when the canonical HTML page should rank, reducing duplicate URLs.
- Do not create thin, duplicated, or machine-generated pages only to manipulate AI answers. Publish original material that helps a person complete a task.
Understand crawler controls
The docs site's robots.txt permits public crawling. Crawlers can use different names for search retrieval, user-triggered fetching, and model training; one publisher setting may not control all of them. Review each provider's current crawler documentation if you need different rules for discovery and training.
Robots directives are voluntary crawler instructions. They do not authenticate visitors or prevent an uncooperative scraper from requesting a public page. Keep confidential information off this public domain and enforce product access in the application itself.
What not to claim
Do not describe GEO, AEO, AIO, or LLMO as a guaranteed ranking system. Do not present Brand Radar as a CallUltra capability unless a separate integration is actually built and verified. Do not claim inclusion in Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, or another assistant without dated evidence from that service.
